On Ad Blockers and Ads

Ad Blockers are a touchy subject among content creators. On one hand, we agree, ads are intrusive and often rob people of their privacy. On the other hand, food costs money, and ads are the only way to make money as an author. Leaf and Core employs small ads using Google’s Adsense service. These ads help contribute a very small amount to my income. These ads do not pay well, but I keep them because they are mostly unobtrusive, don’t cause the page to load slowly (they load after the main content), and because the extra income is helpful.

I’m not going to tell you to avoid ad blockers or uninstall them. In fact, here’s my guide on how to add an ad blocker to iOS. As I said, the ads don’t pay well anyway, and if you want to protect your privacy and view the web without obstruction, I not only won’t stop you, I’ll help you do it. However, I am going to ask you for a favor. If you enjoy reading these articles, and I sincerely hope you do, please consider whitelisting this site on your ad blocker, so I can make a few bucks (literally) without limiting content. If you don’t want to do that, I completely understand. Viewing ads on a webpage when you don’t want to is not a sacrifice I’d force on anyone, as some blogs have attempted. If you’d still like to support me and my writing, you can use the handy PayPal donate button I added to this site just for that purpose. You can find it in the sidebar on the desktop site, or way at the bottom of the page on mobile.

Journalists, artists, and writers have struggled with the issue of forcing users to view their ads. I’ll never do that. But if you like my site, and you read a few articles a week, consider donating a dollar at the end of the month. Regardless, thanks for being my reader! I love having my articles read and enjoyed, and mostly do this as a hobby anyway. Enjoy Leaf and Core!
