One of the first things I had planned to do when I got an iPhone is test the supposed “grip of death”. Apparently, if the iPhone 4 was gripped in such a way, with the lower left corner covered well, the phone would drop a call.
Well, it’s been done already. An article written for AntennaSys Inc showed that there were no issues with the reception, and even the “grip of death” (attempting to choke the phone), didn’t cause the call to be dropped. They also point out that skin contact with the antenna caused no issues, and putting electric tape over the supposed trouble spot before usage caused no change either.
Looks like articles making the iPhone sound bad got more attention because news companies knew they would get attention. And news stories that get a lot of attention bring in a lot of money from advertisers.
