In app purchases can be done properly, but typically are used to extort large sums of money from users. Children are often victims of these practices, and end up spending large sums of their parent’s money. However, the app Any Landing has come up with a method for in app purchases that works very well, and it’s a pricing model that parents and players can be happy with.
Any Landing has an in game money that players can purchase for upgrades. These can be earned in game, but users can speed up the process by paying real money for the in game currency. Unlike other games, however, there’s a limit. Once a player spends $9.99 of real money, they get infinite in game currency, and cannot buy any more in app purchases. This means the game can be purchased for $10, and the developers won’t try to extort more money out of their players. The developer, Strange Flavour, calls it the “Play Nice” model, and it seems like a proper name for the game style.
Check out Any Landing (a play on the saying that “any landing you walk away from is a good landing”) on the App Store. It’s a fun game, and it’s nice to know that there are developers out there that actually care for their players, unlike EA.
