Roller Coaster Tycoon Coming to iOS

Were you a child in the 90’s? Then chances are that you have fond memories of a game called a Roller Coaster Tycoon. The game, for those who haven’t played it yet, involves running a theme park, and perhaps most exciting of all, designing roller coasters. Players would create parks that made money and ensured the happiness of their guests. If I’m not making it sound fun, I apologize, I’m not doing this game any justice. The developers had somehow created a fun business management game. iOS users who owned or played the game will be excited to hear that it will be coming to the App Store, not as a remake of the original, but as an entirely new game. This would be the fourth in the series, and as such, will be called Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 Mobile. The promo video is below.

The game looks to retain many of the features people loved about the original games. In fact, it looks more like the original game with updated graphics. If it had the roller coaster simulation feature introduced by Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, the developers would have surely included the feature in this promo video. That’s unfortunate, but the lack of it won’t take away very much from this game. The feature could be added later, but it most likely won’t. If only that was the only bad news here.

It seems as though this game will feature in app purchases for currency, and will have heavy Facebook integration. That means your friends will be bothering you to play the game on Facebook, and you may need to shell out large sums of money to progress in the game, like Real Racing or Angry Birds Go. Many have also expressed displeasure over the fact that, after waiting many years for a new Roller Coaster Tycoon, they get a version that seems to be a downgrade over the previous version.

The game shows promise, and is definitely something Roller Coaster Tycoon fans have been anticipating for years, myself included. I just hope it doesn’t end up being ruined by in app purchases. While it’s a shame that the fourth installation of this game would be a step back, and won’t expand on the gameplay at all, it should still be great for some classic fun. Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 Mobile will be release early this Spring.
